
Huskies Sweep Friday Doubleheader

The Huskies improve to 28-8 on the season and 9-5 in Pac-12 play.
GAME ONE: CALIFORNIA 4, #10 WASHINGTON 6
Sami Reynolds got the scoring started in the first with a two-run home run, her sixth homer of the season.
California tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth. The Huskies answered right back. With bases loaded SilentRain Espinoza drew a walk and Kinsey Fiedler was hit by a pitch to take a two-run lead. Washington extended its advantage to four on Baylee Klingler's two-run single.
The Golden Bears drove in two runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Makena Smith with one out to cut the Huskies' lead to two. Washington was able to get the final two outs to secure the 6-4 victory.
Lindsay Lopez picked up the win after tossing four innings with four strikeouts. Ruby Meylan got the save after throwing the final three frames. It is Meylan's fourth save of the season to move her into a tied for fifth with Gabbie Plain (2019) in single season saves in program history.
GAME TWO: CALIFORNIA 5, #10 WASHINGTON 16 (5 inn.)
With runners at first and second in the first, Sami Reynolds hit a long single out to the right center wall to drive in the first run of the second game. Kinsey Fiedler smashed her fifth home run of the season out to left field to bring in three more runs for a 4-0 lead after one.
The Huskies tacked on four more runs in the second highlighted by Olivia Johnson's three-run home run.
California cut into Washington's lead with three runs in the third. The Golden Bears added a run in the fourth to make the score 9-4.
Johnson opened the Husky half of the fourth with a solo home run, her second of the night. Rylee Holtorf drove in the 11th run for the Huskies with an RBI double. Baylee Klingler hit a three-run home run and Sami Reynolds followed with a two-run homer to bring the score to 16-4.
Cal added a run in the fifth on a solo homer.
Lindsay Lopez picked up her second win of the day after coming in relief. Lopez moves to 7-2 on the year.
Up next, the Huskies and Golden Bears conclude the series on Saturday at Husky Softball Stadium. First pitch is set for noon and airing on Pac-12 Washington.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Baylee Klingler moved into a tie for fifth in program history after hitting her 54th home run as a Husky.
- The Huskies hit five home runs in a game (second game of the doubleheader) for the first time this season and the first since hitting seven against Northern Colorado on March 12, 2022.
- Washington had 15+ runs in a game for the first time this season and the first since Northern Colorado (17 runs) on March 12, 2022.
