Huskies Fall To No. 5 Oregon In Series Opener
May 09, 2025 | Baseball
EUEGENE, Ore. – Washington dropped game one of its three-game set against No. 5 Oregon on Friday, falling 5-0 at PK Park. It's the first time Washington has lost game one of a Big Ten series after winning its previous eight conference series openers.
The Diamond Dawgs fall to 27-23 and 15-10 in Big Ten play while the Ducks improve to 36-13 and 17-8 in conference contests.
Max Banks got off to a rocky start, allowing four runs in the first inning. He settled in nicely after the first frame, however, and went on to pitch five scoreless innings after that.
He finished with 6.0 innings pitched, four runs, all of which were earned, three walks, and three strikeouts. It was Banks' eighth start of the season going at least 6.0 innings.
Gunnar Nichols took over for the final two innings, striking out three batters with no walks while allowing three hits and one run.
The Huskies put runners on in multiple innings, including loading the bases in the fourth, but were unable to find the next hit to drive in the runners. In total, Washington left seven runners aboard.
Casen Taggart, Sam DeCarlo, and Jackson Hotchkiss each recorded a hit in the game. For Taggart, it improved his on base streak to 24 straight games.
Washington will look to bounce back on Saturday as Jackson Thomas takes the mound in game two in Eugene. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
