Huskies Fall In Regular Season Finale

SEATTLE – Washington battled back from a four-run deficit to tie the game against USC and send the game to extra innings, but the Trojans scored six in the 10th to win 10-4.
Washington concludes the regular season with a 29-26 record and a 17-13 record in Big Ten play, good for fifth in the conference. USC wraps the regular season with a 34-20 record and an 18-12 mark in Big Ten contests for fourth in the league.
The Trojans jumped out to a lead early, scoring once in the opening frame and two more in the third. The USC starter ultimately tossed six innings without allowing a hit.
After the Trojans added one more in the sixth and pulled their starting pitcher, Washington responded. Jackson Hotchkiss got the inning started with a leadoff double, then Blake Wilson came up to bat.
Wilson launched a 405-foot homer to left center for his fifth home run of the season. The two-run shot cut the Trojans' lead in half.
The Trojans made another pitching change, but the Husky bats stayed alive. AJ Guerrero reached on a fielder's choice and was brought home by a Sam DeCarlo triple to trim the deficit to one.
In the seventh inning, Malakhi Knight singled to left and stole second base to get into scoring position. With two outs, Trevor Kole came to the plate and battled in an 11-pitch at bat before singling up the middle to tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth with the game still tied, Jackson Hotchkiss nearly walked the game off with a solo shot to left, but the ball died on the warning track to send the game to extras.
In the top of the 10th, the Trojans broke through, scoring six runs to win the game, 10-4.
Isaac Yeager was dominant on the mound for Washington. The reliever came on in the fourth and pitched all the way through the ninth, allowing five hits, one run, and two walks while striking out four batters.
The Huskies will return to action in Omaha, Neb. in the Big Ten tournament as the No. 5 seed. Washington will be in Pool D, alongside No. 4 USC and No. 9 Penn State.
The Diamond Dawgs' first game of the tournament will be on Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. CT against No. 9 Penn State.
