Huskies Fall At No. 1 Nebraska
October 10, 2025 | Volleyball
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Dawgs went toe-to-toe for long stretches and played some of their toughest defense of the season, but it wasn't enough to really threaten to overtake the No. 1-ranked team in the nation on their home court in front of a sold out crowd. Nebraska (15-0, 5-0 Big Ten) stayed unbeaten with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of the Huskies at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in front of 8,769 fans.
Washington (7-8, 2-3 Big Ten) was limited to .147 on offense by the Huskers, while Nebraska hit .307 for the match. The home team was off to a hot start with a .469 first set percentage, but UW dug in and slowed them down to .273 in the second set and .211 in the third, but the Dawgs couldn't get out in front in any set and spent much of the match down between two and five points, winning long rallies and finishing big kills but the Huskers would respond each time.
Kierstyn Barton had nine kills while freshman Simona Mateska had eight, and Alexa Markley had five. Zoria Heard was stellar with 18 digs and one ace. Katy Wessels put down five kills, hitting .400, and led the blocking with four block assists. Julia Hunt had four kills, hitting .333 with one block. Alexis Haury had a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs.
Nebraska had a 6-2 edge in aces and a 10.0 to 5.0 advantage in blocks, and a 49-43 advantage in digs.
Up Next: Washington heads all the way back West to Eugene for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Ducks. UW faces Oregon in Matthew Knight Arena at 1 p.m., once again on Big Ten Network.
