SEATTLE – No. 24 Washington had won its last three home games against AP top-10 opponents, but could not make it four-straight, falling to No. 9 Oregon State on Friday night at Alaska Airlines Arena, 61-53. The loss drops the Huskies (16-6, 7-4 Pac-12) to fifth place in the conference, while the Beavers (18-3, 10-1) remain tied for the lead with Arizona State.
The Dawgs were led by Kelsey Plum who notched her eighth 30-point game of the season, but much of it came in the second half after Oregon State had taken control. Plum would be the only Husky in double figures as the Dawgs shot just 30.2 percent (16-53) for the game.
Oregon State jumped on the Huskies early, building a 31-17 halftime lead. The Dawgs made just seven field goals in the first half as Plum led the way with nine points. The Dawgs shot just 25 percent in the opening 20 minutes, while also being outrebounded, 22-17
Washington responded and outscored Oregon State 36-30 after the break, but never got closer than a seven-point deficit. Plum scored 21 in the second half, getting it going from the floor, making 7-11 field goals in the final 20 minutes. She also finished 9-9 from the foul line, breaking a couple milestones in the process.
Plum moved past Jamie Redd into second place on the all-time Washington scoring list now with 2,055 points. She now trails only Jazmine Davis, the Dawgs all-time leader in points with 2,277. In addition, Plum broke one of Davis' records, setting a new career mark for free throws made with 585.
For the game, Washington made just two 3-pointers as Plum and Alexus Atchley each made one. The two 3's was a season low as the Beavers had three players make at least two.
Washington also got six points apiece from Talia Walton and Chantel Osahor, while Osahor led the team in rebounding with eight and assists with three. Walton also contributed four steals, but the Huskies only scored 10 points off the 11 turnovers forced.
The Huskies will now have to bounce back quickly as they host Oregon (16-6, 5-7) in another crucial Pac-12 matchup. The game between the Dawgs and Ducks will be Sunday at noon for a webcast only broadcast.
