TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington (18-8, 9-6 Pac-12) jumped on Arizona (11-16, 2-13) early and dominated throughout, earning a big Pac-12 road win, 74-52. The Dawgs used a balanced attack, shooting 50 percent for the game and making 11-21 from beyond the arc.
The Huskies got 22 points and six assists from Kelsey Plum, while Talia Walton had 20 and Chantel Osahor added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the return to her home state.
It was Walton that set the tone early, scoring 16 in the first half as the Dawgs built a big lead. Thanks to her big night, Walton moved into the top-10 all-time in scoring at Washington, now with 1,617 points. She is one of just four Huskies in the top-10 all-time in both points and rebounds at UW, joining Rhonda Smith, Giuliana Mendiola and Yvette Cole.
Washington jumped on the Wildcats early on, scoring the first 12 points and holding Arizona scoreless until the 3:33 mark of the first quarter. The Dawgs were hot from beyond the 3-point arc as Osahor made her first two and the Huskies shot 4-7 from deep overall to lead it 18-6 after the first quarter.
The Dawgs continued to extend the margin in the second quarter, leading by as many as 17. Walton scored 11 in the period and finished the half with 16 points on 7-12 shooting. Only a banked in 3-pointer just before the half cut the Dawgs lead to 36-22 at the break.
Plum got things going on the offensive end in the third quarter, scoring 12 in the period. As a team, Washington shot 4-7 from deep in the period as Alexus Atchley also got in the act, knocking down a pair.
The fourth quarter was a coronation as the Dawgs were able to empty their bench. Deja Strother and Kelli Kingma each scored four points, while Jenna Moser made her Husky debut after a season and a half as a practice player.
The win along with an Oregon loss to No. 12 UCLA put the Dawgs back in fifth place by themselves in the Pac-12. It also guarantees the Dawgs at least a .500 record in conference with three games to play.
The Huskies will continue their roadtrip in the desert on Sunday when they travel to Tempe to face No. 9 Arizona State. The Devils used a late surge in Seattle to win the first game as the Dawgs will look to even the score at Wells Fargo Arena. The final road game of the Pac-12 season for Washington will tip at 11 a.m., PT, and can be seen live on the Pac-12 Networks.
