No. 11 Washington Wins Eighth Straight, Defeating Savannah State, 87-36

SEATTLE -- The No. 11 University of Washington women's basketball team won its eighth consecutive game, beating Savannah State, 87-36, Sunday afternoon inside Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies improved to 11-1 on the season while earning the 800th win in program history in its final non-conference home game of the year.
Senior Kelsey Plum led the way with 23 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals. The senior was 5-of-8 from three-point range and became the program's career leader in three-pointers (270). Entering the game, Plum was tied with Jazmine Davis (2011-15) with 265 made in her career.
The Huskies got 40 points from its bench, led by redshirt junior Heather Corral, who missed the last four games with an injury. The Vancouver, Wash. native finished with 15 points in her return, including three triples in 18 minutes of action. Rounding out the double-digit scoring efforts was freshman Mai-Loni Henson who tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes.
For the eighth time this season, Washington recorded double-digit three-pointers in the game, shooting 45.2 percent (14-of-31) from behind the arc.
As a team, the Huskies, who had 10 different players in the scoring column, shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68) from the floor and held Savannah State to 24.5 percent (13-of-53). Washington also held a 47-34 advantage on the glass, led by sophomore Hannah Johnson who grabbed a team-high nine boards.
The Huskies held Savannah State to single-digit scoring in all but one quarter, including five in the final frame, while scoring 20 or more in all four quarters.
After being held scoreless through the opening three minutes of the game, Washington got the ball rolling with a three-point play by Collier at the 6:57 mark and then went on a 13-4 run to retain a 21-8 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
The Huskies went on a 15-2 run, spearheaded by a Henson three-pointer at the 6:01 mark of the second quarter to jump out to a 43-16 lead at halftime.
Back-to-back three-pointers by junior Natalie Romeo opened the scoring for the Huskies in the third quarter as the home team rolled to a 30-point lead, 49-19.
Washington led, 63-31, entering the final frame before ending the game on an 11-0 run to runaway with the 51-point victory.
Next up, the Huskies travel to Provo, Utah to play BYU on Thursday (Dec. 22) in its final non-conference game of the season.
