
Women's Hoops Cruises To 97-66 Exhibition Victory Over Central Washington

SEATTLE - Senior Kelsey Plum scored a game-high 33 points while fellow senior Chantel Osahor recorded a double-double, netting 18 points and 13 rebounds to help the University of Washington women's basketball team to a 97-66 victory over Central Washington University in the team's 2016-17 preseason exhibition opener on Saturday at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Plum, who went 5-of-5 from the foul line, also grabbed five rebounds. Osahor was 4-of-8 from the field and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Senior Katie Collier and sophomore Deja Strother each contributed nine points while junior Kelli Kingma added a game-best five assists on the night.
In their Husky debuts, Mai-Loni Henson chipped in 10 points and four rebounds while Amber Melgoza tallied nine points behind three triples in the fourth quarter. Also taking the court for the first time was rookie Aarion McDonald, who finished the night with six points and two rebounds.
As a team, the Huskies shot 51.6 percent (32-of-63) from the field and held the Wildcats to a 25.3 shooting percentage. Washington took a 39-18 lead heading into halftime and outscored Central Washington, 58-to-48, over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Washington will conclude its two-game exhibition slate on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when it hosts Concordia at Alaska Airlines Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
