Williams Lifts Huskies With Two Home Runs

CORVALLIS, Ore. - A solo home run by senior Nikia Williams in the top of the ninth with two outs gave UW a 7-6 victory over Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., Saturday afternoon.
"Our team is a big puzzle and we were able to put the pieces where they belong today," said Williams. "We competed faster and longer and that's what allowed us to finish."
The game went back-and-forth the first three innings until the Huskies tied it at 6 in the sixth inning. Neither team would score again until UW got the winning run in the ninth. The No. 9/11 Huskies improve to 36-10 overall and 7-9 in Pac-12 play. UW evened the weekend series with the win. No. RV/24 Oregon State is now 28-15 and 5-8.
UW struck first as sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.). Oregon State got three bottom of the first off of Inglesby who earned the start. Inglesby went 2.0 innings, allowing six runs on five hits.
Freshman Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowing just one hit. Sophomore Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) would get the win (9-2), allowing just two hits in the final 3.0 innings.
Oregon State also used three pitchers. Aryn Feickert got the start, pitching 2.1 innings. Paige Hall pitched 3.0 in relief and Marina Demore took the loss (7-3), allowing one run on three hits in 3.2 innings.
UW scored twice more in the second to tie after a double by sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) and then a home run by junior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.). Oregon State scored three more in the second for a 6-3 lead.
Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) hit her first of two home runs on the day in the third. In the sixth, UW tied the game as Faglay hit a two-run home run. Sophomore Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) also scored; pinch running for freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) who singled in the inning.
