Volleyball Ends Season At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Washington volleyball team closed out the 1999 season with a lengthy 3-2 loss to California Saturday night at Haas Pavilion. Game scores were 6-15, 15-12, 15-1, 13-15 and 15-12.
Washington finished the season with an 8-18 overall record and a 4-14 Pac-10 mark. The Bears, who finish the season with a non-conference match vs. Nevada on Tuesday, improved to 12-15 overall and 7-11 in the Pac-10.
Senior Kellie Alva led the Bears with a near triple-double. She had 11 kills, nine digs and nine blocks while Alicia Perry had 23 kills and Brook Coulter contributed 19 kills and 25 digs, a match high.
Washington had five players reach double-figures in kills, led by 21 from sophomore Allison Richardson. Freshman Gretchen Maurer posted career highs with 10 kills and 19 digs.
Washington senior Kristina Laffling, who posted 13 kills and five digs in her final collegiate match against Cal, closed outher career with 1,253 kills and 968 digs, fifth and fourth, respectively, in Husky history. She also ranks among the top 10 in UW history in attacks, block assists and total blocks.
