Late Rally Falls Short Against Utah

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 5 Washington fell in the semifinals of the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament to No. 17 Utah 8-4 on Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Lindsay Lopez retired the first six batters she faced but Utah was able to load the bases in the third with a run scoring on a wild pitch and two on a double with one out to take a 3-0 lead.
Utah added a run in the fourth inning on a solo homer by Julia Jemenez.
The Huskies were able to cut into the Utes' lead with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth. Baylee Klingler reached on a fielder's choice to score Kinsey Fiedler and Sami Reynolds reached on a fielder's choice as well to bring around Rylee Holtorf.
The Utes added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a one-out two-run homer by Ellessa Bonstrom. The Utes would add two more runs in the inning for an 8-2 lead.
Washington was looking for a rally and it started with Holtorf's third home run of the season. The Huskies were able to load the bases with back-to-back-to-back singles by Sydney Stewart, Klingler and Reynolds. A sacrifice fly by Madison Huskey brought the Huskies within four but were unable to bring across another run.
The Huskies wait to see where they are selected in the 2023 Softball Selection Show which will air on Sunday, May 14 at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
