Huskies Run-Rule Hofstra, Morgan State

HOUSTON – No. 12 Washington continued the Houston Classic with two run-rule victories over Hofstra and Morgan State on Saturday at Cougar Softball Stadium. The Huskies defeated Hofstra 8-0 in six innings and Morgan State 12-1 in five.
Overall, Washington is 8-1 on the season.
HOFSTRA 0, #12 WASHINGTON 8 (6 inn.)
Brooke Nelson (2-0) and Kelley Lynch combined for the shutout. Brooke earned her second win of the season after tossing five innings, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts. Lynch recorded three strikeouts in an inning of work.
Four Huskies recorded multi-hit games: Baylee Klingler, Kinsey Fiedler, Madison Huskey and Sami Reynolds. Klingler led the way with three RBI and a home run. Fiedler and Huskey also hit their second home runs of the season.
Lynch hit the sacrifice fly to end the game in the sixth to put the run-rule in effect, bringing the score to its final 8-0.
Scoring:
2nd: Huskey homered to left center.
3rd: Klingler homered to right field.
3rd: Huskey stole second; Klingler stole home.
3rd: Reynolds singled up the middle; Huskey scored (unearned).
5th: Fiedler homered to right field.
6th: Klingler doubled to left center; Nelson scored; Holtorf scored.
MORGAN STATE 1, #12 WASHINGTON 12 (5 inn.)
Lindsay Lopez (3-1) earned her third win of the season, after going four innings allowing two hits and one run with three strikeouts. Ruby Meylan came and pitched an inning with one strikeout.
Four Huskies had multi-RBI games in Baylee Klingler and Alana Johnson with three. Olivia Johnson and Madison Huskey both had two RBI. Klingler, Avery Hobson, SilentRain Espinoza and Brooklyn Carter all recorded two hits.
Scoring:
1st: MSU sacrifice hit.
2nd: Espinoza double; Hobson scored.
2nd: A. Johnson sacrifice fly; Espinoza scored.
2nd: Klingler single up the middle, advanced to second on the throw; Carter scored; Holtorf scored.
2nd: Huskey single; Fiedler scored; Klingler scored.
3rd: Carter single to third base; A. Johnson advanced to third; Espinoza scored.
