Washington Secures Two Run-Rule Shutout Victories

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 14 Washington Huskies recorded back-to-back run-rule shutouts on day two of the Mark Campbell Invitational with victories over San Jose State and Liberty on Friday.
In game one, Washington defeated San Jose State 10-0 and in game two against Liberty 8-0. The Dawgs improve to 3-0 on the season.
GAME ONE – SAN JOSE STATE 0, #14 WASHINGTON 10
Brooke Nelson and Lindsay Lopez combined for the shutout on the way to a 10-0 run-rule victory for Washington. The duo only allowed four hits with four strikeouts.
The Huskies got on the board early when Olivia Johnson brought in Madison Huskey in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 advantage.
With two on and one out, Rylee Holtorf smashed a triple down the left field line. Baylee Klingler came up, after a Kinsey Fiedler walk, and hit a shallow single to right that Fiedler came around to score on. Sami Reynolds added to the score with a double down the left field line to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
In the fourth, the first three Husky batters (Fiedler, Klinger and Huskey) all reached and with one out Sami Reynolds smashed her first home run of the season, bringing the score to its eventual final of 10-0.
GAME TWO – LIBERTY 0, #14 WASHINGTON 8
Freshman Ruby Meylan shined in her first career start, recorded a complete-game shutout allowing one hit and one walk with 10 strikeouts.
With runner on first and third in the first, Sami Reynolds singled down the left field line to bring in Baylee Klingler.
Washington tallied a run in the second on a Kinsey Fiedler RBI double to make it a 2-0 game. Klingler added a run in the fourth on a fielder' choice that brought in Rylee Holtorf.
Kelley Lynch came up to bat with the bases loaded in the fifth and lined a double to the right center wall to clear the bases. Holtorf singled to drive in Lynch, bringing the score to 7-0.
The Huskies completed the run-rule victory with a Klingler leadoff triple and scored a batter later when Madison Huskey singled to center.
Up next, the Huskies play their final game of the Mark Campbell Invitational against No. 1 Oklahoma on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bill Barber Park. The game will also be streamed on FloSoftball, this is a subscription-based service.
