Huskies Earn Twelfth Win In A Row On Senior Day
May 21, 2022 | Baseball
SEATTLE - An impressive crowd turned out for the final game of the regular season at Husky Ballpark. Not only was it Senior Day, but fans were also eager to watch the Huskies win their twelfth game in a row. After outscoring the Northern Colorado Bears 41-6 in the first three games of the series however, Husky bats had a bit of trouble heating up in the series finale. With Bear pitching only recording one walk and three strikeouts, the Dawgs were putting the ball in play, they simply weren't finding many holes. Four hits did drop in in the fourth however, to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. A final run in the eighth via an AJ Guerrero solo shot to left offered much needed insurance as a 2-run UNC homerun made it a one-run game in the ninth. Stefan Raeth would need just three pitches to sit the next batter down swinging however, to earn the save and the Huskies' twelfth win in a row.
BOTTOM OF 2
AJ Guerrero got things started with a base hit through the left side. Then Coby Morales laced a shot to right to put two on. With Snyder at the plate, a wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position. He would then send a sacrifice fly to left scoring Guerrero. The ball came in to third leaving Morales the sole baserunner on second. One out later, Josh Urps stroked an RBI base hit to right to give the Dawgs a 2-0 lead. Back at the top of the order, Barney chopped one sky high to the third baseman. He attempted the throw over, but with Barney's wheels the throw never had a chance. Clayton stepped in next and drove one to deep left center that the center fielder caught on the run.
BOTTOM OF 8
Guerrero stepped to the plate with one out and watch ball one sail by. Having seen one, he was now ready and laid into an off-speed pitch clobbering his 10th home run of the season over the left field fence. The Dawgs would head to the ninth up 3-0.
TOP OF 9
Having entered with one out in the eighth, Stefan Raeth continued on the mound in the ninth. The first three pitches brought two pop ups for outs. With two down, batter number three doubled to center. With a runner on, the next batter worked a 2-2 count then connected deep to right field for a two-run home run to make it a 3-2 ballgame. The next batter saw only three pitches and went down swinging to end the game.
