Huskies Wrap Stanford Invite With Wins, PRs

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Husky track team wrapped up its weekend at the Stanford Invitational with several more strong performances and season- and career-bests this afternoon. A couple freshman throwers won their sections to lead the way.
Redshirt freshman Jack Scheideman had a career-best toss of 53-2 ¼ in the shot put to win the collegiate section. That came on his sixth and final attempt. True freshman javelin thrower Koryn Andrus also made a great college debut with a throw of 141-0 which puts her ninth on the Husky top-10 list, one foot farther than freshman teammate Ashley Alexander's mark from two weeks ago.
A couple Husky All-Americans took to the track to run 800-meters for the first time outdoors this spring. Derrick Daigre, the 800m leg on UW's All-American DMR, ran in the top heat today and finished fourth overall in a time of 1:49.55, just off his outdoor best. In section three, Izaic Yorks won the heat, running a time of 1:50.19, especially impressive coming off a fast 1,500-meters on Friday of 3:43.38. In the women's 800m, sophomore C.J. Smith posted a 2:12.98.
At 200-meters, junior Haley Jacobson ran a major career-best time of 24.60 seconds, having never before broken 25 seconds indoors or out. Her time is just a tenth of a second off the UW top-10 list. Junior Gianna Woodruff also made a run of 24.70 seconds into a headwind, just a few hundredths off her PR.
In the men's 200-meters, sophomores Quadelle Satterwhite had the 13th-best time of the day at 21.90 seconds, with freshman Andrew Brown running 22.14 into a fierce headwind, and freshman Lucas Strong going 22.21 in the same heat into the -3.1 headwind.
Senior Kasen Covington had another solid day in the triple jump, taking fourth in the invitational section with a best of 50-4 ¾.
Back in the throws, sophomore Bev Coleman extended her hammer throw PR to 163-10 on her second of six throws, finishing eighth in her section. She remains sixth on the Husky top-10 list. Junior Brian Hutchison also tossed 51-8 ¼ in the shot put.
Washington will now look forward to making its outdoor home debut next Saturday, April 12, with the Washington Open at the Husky Outdoor Track.
