LOS ANGELES - Husky doubles duo Dinka Hadzic and Tara Simpson are through to the qualifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, by virtue of a pair of wins this afternoon on the UCLA campus.
The two Huskies were the second seed in the prequalifying tournament, earning a first round bye. Their first match came in the round of 16, where they defeated Merve Asimgil and Jovic Jelena of Pepperdine, 8-6. Later in the day, Hadzic and Sumantri ousted the No. 6 seeds, Kelly Anderson and Christy Striplin of Georgia Tech, 8-5.
By reaching the semifinals, Hadzic and Simpson earn their way into the 32-team qualifying draw, which then sends four additional teams into the 32-team main draw. Qualifying play begins Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Riviera Tennis Club. Hadzic is also entered in the singles qualifying draw.
Today marked the first matches together as a tandem for Hadzic, a senior, and Simpson, a sophomore.
