SEATTLE - The Washington women's tennis team won all six singles matches and two doubles matches against No. 25 Fresno State, 8-1, on Saturday at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. Washington improves their record to 4-5 and 1-2 in Pac-10 competition. The Huskies next match will be against No. 72 Pacific on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in Seattle.
In singles competition, playing in the No. 1 slot, 4th-ranked junior Kristina Kraszewski downed Kim Niggemfyer, 6-3, 6-2, while in the No. 2 slot, 52nd-ranked senior Zuzana Stunova defeated Kandiss Creighton. In the third position, sophomore Ilona Kordonskaya stopped Liesl Fichtbauer, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, while in the No. 4 slot, freshman Darija Klaic slaughtered Chantel Wiggins, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Zeta Wagner won in the fifth position by stopping Ewa Grusiecka, 6-4, 6-3, while freshman Colleen Gray downed Kelly Ramirez, 6-3, 6-2, in the sixth slot.
In the top position of doubles competition, 49th-ranked Kristina Kraszewski and Darija Klaic downed Kandiss Creighton and Liesl Fichtbauer, 8-3. Ilona Kordonskaya and Zuzana Stunova lost in the second position to Renee Kops-Jones and Kim Niggemfyer, 8-3, while Colleen Gray and senior Peggy Wu stopped Anke Beier and Kelly Ramirez, 8-5, in the third slot.
