Pitcher’s Duel Goes To Stanford In Game One
April 26, 2024 | Softball
SEATTLE – No. 8 Washington softball dropped a hard-fought game one to No. 7 Stanford 3-1 on Friday night at Husky Softball Stadium.
The Huskies move to 30-9 on the season and 12-7 in Pac-12 action while Stanford improves to 38-10 (14-5 Pac-12)
Ruby Meylan (9-6) got the start, tossing her ninth complete game with eight strikeouts. Meylan allowed just one earned run on three hits.
Stanford got the game started with a pair of unearned runs in the first on one hit.
Meylan went on to retire 13 consecutive batters before giving up a leadoff walk in the sixth.
Giselle Alvarez sent her second home run of the season over the right field scoreboard to make it a one-run game in the sixth. It is the 12th consecutive game the Huskies have it a homer, recording 26 over that span.
The Huskies were able to load the bases on singles by Rylee Holtorf and Brooke Nelson and a walk to pinch-hitter Jadyn Glab but couldn't bring in the game-tying run.
Stanford added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Jade Berry.
The Huskies and Cardinal face off in game two Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and streaming on the Washington Live Stream with audio available on GoHuskies.com.
