SEATTLE – No. 5 Washington took game two against Arizona State 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium to secure the first Pac-12 series win of the season.
The Huskies improve to 18-2, 2-0 Pac-12 and extend the winning streak to 10 games. Washington has won 16 of its last 17.
Lindsay Lopez got the start, tossing her first complete game of the season to improve to 5-1. It is the 22nd complete game and seventh shutout of Lopez's career. She struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed only two walks on four hits.
After 35 minutes of action in a scoreless game in the second inning, the contest entered a 57-minute rain delay.
Sydney Stewart was hit by a pitch to leadoff the fourth. Olivia Johnson placed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Stewart to second, but a Sun Devil error allowed her to score to bring in the first run of the game. With two outs, Avery Hobson reached on a single and stole second. Brooklyn Carter brought her in on a single of her own to make it 2-0 for the Huskies.
Rylee Holtorf led off with a double in the fifth. Alana Johnson smashed her fourth home run of the season off the batter's eye in center field to double to lead and bring it to its eventual final of 4-0.
Lopez closed out the game with allowing only one base runner in the final two frames.
The Huskies and Sun Devils close out the weekend series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for noon at Husky Softball Stadium and airing on the Washington Live Stream.
