
Huskies Split Day 2 Of Puerto Vallarta College Challenge

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – No. 7 Washington split the second day of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge opening with a 4-3 win over Utah Valley before dropping the night cap against No. 1 Oklahoma 3-4 in eight innings.
The Huskies move to 2-1 on the season.
UTAH VALLEY 3, #7 WASHINGTON 4
Brooke Nelson got the start for Washington in the circle, tossing three innings with one earned run allowed and striking out five. Sidne Peters (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win after coming in relief for the final four frames and fanning six.
Utah Valley got the scoring going early capitalizing on a pair of Washington errors to take a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. The Huskies responded on a Rylee Holtorf RBI double to bring across Brooklyn Carter to cut the lead to one. Washington took the lead on a 2-RBI double out to center from Jadyn Glab to tie the game at three.
The Dawgs scored the final run of the game in the second on a single from Holtorf to score Carter from second for the 4-3 lead.

In the second game of the day for the Huskies, Lindsay Lopez got the start going three innings with two earned runs and a strikeout. Ruby Meylan (1-1) came in and threw five innings to keep UW in the game and striking out a season-high seven Sooners.
Oklahoma scored a pair of runs to open the contest on back-to-back singles for the 2-0 advantage.
Washington responded back in the second to take the lead. Avery Hobson drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a single by Nelson. With two outs, Carter singled and Hobson was sent around and scored on an error by the OU catcher. A single down the right line from Jillian Celis took the lead for UW at 4-3.
The Huskies had a couple of chances to add insurance runs but were unable to bring them across.
The Sooners tied the game in the sixth and the game went to extra innings.
With the international tiebreaker in effect, Oklahoma brought across the game-winning run with two outs in the eighth.
Washington closes out its opening weekend against Iowa State on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. PT/4 p.m. CT and streaming on FloSports.
