Huskies Hire Whitney Jones, Promote J.T. D'Amico
September 14, 2017 | Softball
SEATTLE – The Washington Huskies announced today the hiring of Whitney Jones as a volunteer assistant coach for the Husky softball team. J.T. D'Amico has been promoted to assistant coach from the volunteer position. These hires will also see Lance Glasoe transition back to serving as Washington's pitching coach, a role he served in from 2008-14.
"We were very excited and jumped at the chance to hire J.T. in a full-time position after nine years of serving in the volunteer position," said Head Coach Heather Tarr. "J.T. will have the chance to go off-campus and evaluate talent and that's a skill he excels at."
D'Amico will continue to serve as the infield coach for the Huskies as well. "The UW is a special place. The last nine years have been successful and we're looking to create a new momentum moving forward," said D'Amico. "Thank you to Coach Tarr, Jen Cohen, and Erin O'Connell for helping make this happen. I'm excited to help our players get better."
Jones played for the Huskies while in college, graduating in 2014. As a student-athlete, Jones was named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2014 and was a two-time Academic All-Pac-12 performer, in 2013 and 2014. Following her playing career, Jones went on to become the head coach at Garfield High School. In 2017, Jones led the Bulldogs to a 19-8 record before falling in the WIAA Softball State Championships.
"I am very excited to be back and a part of the coaching staff. Coach Tarr is a phenomenal coach, mentor, and person to learn from and grow under," said Jones. "I look forward to taking on the outfield unit and helping the team compete for a national championship on a daily basis."
Jones will coach the outfielders for Washington and assist with the offense.
"Whitney has spent the past four years honing her skills and she is ready to help build our program as a coach just like she did as a player," said Tarr on Jones' role with the Huskies.
