
Bates Helps USA Junior National Team To WBSC World Title

Washington's Sis Bates played a key role as the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team earned the gold medal last week at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women's World Championship in Clearwater, Fla.
The American team went 9-0 in the tournament, capping the tournament with a 13-4 win over Japan in the final game. The U.S. out-scored opponents 99-9 during the competition.
Bates, a second baseman from Ceres, Calif., who will be a sophomore at the UW this coming season, had a great tournament, batting .444 (12-for-27) with 12 runs scored, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Her 12 runs were second-most in the entire tournament, while her 12 hits tied for sixth-most. A total of 26 national teams participated in the 12th edition of the WBSC Junior tournament.
The second-seeded U.S. team beat No. 1 seed Japan, 13-4, in the final game to earn the championship. Bates had a single, a walk, two runs and an RBI in the finale.
