Husky rower finishes second in American legs, trunk and arms mixed four.
Washington rower Danielle Hansen won a silver medal in the United States leg, trunk and arms mixed four with coxswain Sunday at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Hansen, from Patterson, Calif., and her American four finished the 1,000-meter course in 3:19.61, 2.44 seconds behind gold medalist Great Britain. Hansen's crew led after the first 250 meters, but the Brits moved in front by 500 and rowed to the win. Canada won bronze.
Hansen (pictured, second from right) won a silver medal in the same event at each of the last two World Rowing Championship regattas in 2014 and 2015.
"We've gone silver the past three years, so we were definitely trying to break out of that trend.," American teammate Jaclyn Smith told WorldRowing.com Sunday. "I know that the four other people in the boat, everyone gave everything they had and there's nothing more we could have done. Great Britain is hands-down an amazing crew."
The British and American crews each won their heats on Friday to qualify directly for the A final – the only two boats to do so.
Hansen joins three other UW rowers who earned medals in Rio this summer. Canadian Patricia Obee won silver in the women's lightweight double sculls and Katelin Snyder and Kerry Simmonds were both a part of the U.S. eight that won gold at the Rio Olympics.
