SEATTLE -- Seniors Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor were named to the 2017 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Wednesday (Nov. 30). The Husky seniors are currently leading the nation in scoring and rebounding, respectively, Plum averaging 29.9 points per game and Osahor grabbing 14.0 rebounds per game.
Five Pac-12 teams were represented on the list with Washington as the only league team to have multiple representatives.
The list, which currently includes 50 players, will be narrowed to 30 student-athletes on Feb. 8, 2017. Plum appears on the award's preseason watch list for the third consecutive year, while Osahor is making her first appearance.
Through six games this season, Plum, who became the first WBCA All-American in program history last season, has already scored 209 points, including a season-high 44 against Seattle U. The point guard surpassed 2,000 points for her career as a junior, becoming the fastest in Pac-12 history to reach that milestone, doing it in just 88 games. She now has 2,627 points, a new Washington record which ranks third in Pac-12 history.
Earlier this week, Osahor, whose six double-doubles also leads the nation, was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after leading the Huskies to three wins over Idaho, Seattle U and Portland. The senior recorded the first triple-double in program history in a 105-53 win against Idaho before recording back-to-back double-doubles against the Redhawks and Pilots.
Washington continues its three-game road trip this week, traveling to Phoenix, Ariz. to play Grand Canyon on Thursday (Dec. 1).
