SEATTLE – Washington looked ready in its final tune-up of the exhibition season, downing Warner Pacific, 88-44. The Huskies were led by standout guard Kelsey Plum who had 27 points, but all 11 players that dressed scored at least one point.
Washington led 24-14 after the first quarter, but put things out of reach in the second. The Dawgs rattled off a 21-0 run beginning late in the first quarter through most of the second to lead 43-14 with 3:33 to go in the half.
Plum led the Dawgs with 17 in the first half, but eight Huskies found their names in the scorebook. Talia Walton added nine points, while Katie Collier had eight. The Huskies shot 17-35 (48.6 percent) from the floor and 6-15 (40.0 percent) from 3-point range.
On the other end, the Huskies went all half without allowing a two-point field goal from Warner Pacific. The Knights were just 6-28 (21.4 percent) from the floor, but did make 6-17 (35.3 percent) from downtown. Kendra Preuninger was the offense, knocking down five from beyond the arc.
After the break, it was more of the same as the Dawgs extended the lead to 72-29 after three quarters. Walton got it going in the period, making four of five for nine points.
The final quarter saw the Washington bench get extended minutes and there was not much of a dropoff. The Dawgs finished by shooting 28-67 (41.8 percent), including 9-28 (32.1 percent) from 3-point range.
On the defensive end, the Huskies finished up by holding Warner Pacific to 16-62 (25.8 percent). Chantel Osahor had a game-high 10 rebounds as the Huskies outrebounded the Knights, 60-32. Osahor also had six assists, while Plum had five.
Freshman Deja Stother continued to impress, scoring six points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking four shots in just 15 minutes of action.
Washington will get things going for real next Saturday, Nov. 14, when they host Santa Clara at 2 p.m. The non-conference opener will not be a TV game, but will be available via a free webcast on gohuskies.com.
