
Plum Nets 34 As Dawgs Down Texas Tech, 77-73

LAS VEGAS – Washington got back to their winning ways, finishing off the South Point Shootout with a 77-73 win over Texas Tech. It wasn't easy as the Dawgs had to come back from an eight-point halftime deficit, but behind a 34-point night from Kelsey Plum the Huskies were up to the task.
Washington improved to 5-1 on the season, splitting in Las Vegas after a comeback fell short in the opener against No. 23 Syracuse. Plum took over in the third quarter, scoring 19 in the period to lead the Huskies to victory.
After a sluggish start offensively against Syracuse, the Dawgs were clicking early against Texas Tech. Talia Walton scored nine points in the first quarter on 4-4 shooting as the Dawgs led by as many as five.
In the second quarter, the Red Raiders made their surge, reclaiming the lead as part of a 10-0 run and then closed with the half's final five points to lead 38-30 at the break. The Dawgs shot 30 percent in the half (10-33), going cold in the second quarter. Washington was also just 1-9 from 3-point range, while Texas Tech made 7-14 from beyond the arc.
After the break, Plum took over, scoring 19 points in the third quarter. After shooting just 1-8 from the field in the first half, Plum was 8-11 in the third. The Dawgs also got some quality play off the bench from Mathilde Gilling who saw her most extended minutes of the season. She finished with a career-high tying nine points and five rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
After trailing by eight at the break, the Dawgs led by seven heading to the final quarter as a 27-12 period was just was the Huskies needed.
In the fourth, Washington saw Texas Tech fight back as the tied it by scoring the first seven points. The Huskies responded, however, pushing the lead to double digits as Walton and Gilling joined Plum on the offensive end. Walton finished with 17 point and 11 rebounds and was the Husky representative on the All-Tournament Team after recording double doubles in both games.
The Dawgs also got another solid night from Chantel Osahor who finished with nine points and seven rebounds. For the game, Washington shot 37.5 percent (27-72), overcoming just 3-24 from beyond the arc.
Texas Tech stayed in the game, making 10 of 20 from 3-point range, but the Dawgs won both the battle on the glass (44-40) and with turnovers (9-14).
The Huskies will now return to Seattle for a pair of home games next week. First up is Portland on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., followed by the big non-conference clash with No. 17 Oklahoma on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. for a TV game on the Pac-12 Networks.
