SEATTLE - A two-RBI double with two outs in the fourth by freshman Kimberlee Souza was the deciding factor in the UW's game one victory over Harvard to begin the Seattle Regional Friday night.
No. 18/18 UW improves to 37-17 and will advance to the winner's bracket at 1 p.m. Saturday and play No. 23 Texas Tech who defeated Maryland 6-1 in game one. Junior Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) got the rally going in the fourth with a bunt single. Junior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) followed by taking the next pitch to left for a single. Sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) laid down a sac bunt and then Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) drove in the winning run.
The Huskies had seven hits in the game, led by Williams and Fa'asua with two each.
Harvard had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh but sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby finished the shutout.
The Portland, Ore., native allowed just three hits, improving to 19-10 on the year and striking out seven.
Rachel Brown for Harvard pitched the complete game, allowing seven hits and falling to 19-6 on the year.
