Rogers Unstoppable As Huskies Overwhelm Vandals, 66-49

MOSCOW, Idaho - It was clear right from the tip that Regina Rogers had Idaho's attention. They just couldn't do anything about it.
The senior center carved up the Vandals interior, setting new career-highs with 27 points and 14 rebounds in the Huskies' 66-49 victory at Memorial Gym on Wednesday. Rogers was a tidy 11-of-14 from the field, despite having two and three Vandal players enveloping her on defense.
The big takeaway for the Huskies was another road win, which improved their record to 4-2. But a solid performance on both ends of the floor did little to satisfy coach Kevin McGuff, who said following the game there's still plenty of room to build.
"We did a lot of things well," McGuff said. "And there are a couple of things we can clean up in practice. For where we want to get as a program, we need to make sure we take care of the little things in terms of execution."
One thing McGuff never discounts is a road victory. And he reserved plenty of praise for Rogers, who is blossoming in her role as the Huskies' focal point on offense. When the Vandals doubled the post, Rogers would kick the ball out and re-position herself for a better look. She also tied a career-high with three assists, the best a no-look feed to a cutting Mackenzie Argens for a layup in the second half.
"My teammates did a good job of finding me tonight," Rogers said. "It's always good to get a road win and hopefully this sets the table for a good finish in preseason." Rogers has scored 53 points in her last two games, helping the Huskies stabilize themselves on offense with the absence of Kristi Kingma (torn ACL).
Washington also enjoyed a breakout game from frosh Aminah Williams, who came off the bench to tally 11 points and six rebounds. The Seattle native was active on the defense end as well, recording three steals and using her length to frustrate Vandal shooters. Idaho (2-5) ended up shooting just 27 percent from the field, struggling to find seams in the Husky defense. Stacey Barr came off the bench to lead Idaho with 11 points, but did so on 4-of-14 shooting.
The Huskies also held a distinct advantage on the glass, despite 14 rebounds from Vandal forward Alyssa Charlston. Washington also protected the ball much better than in recent games, turning the ball over just 12 times.
Because of football conflicts, the Huskies tipped-off against Idaho at venerable Memorial Gym, which has hosted on-campus hoops since 1928. The game was part of a double-header with the Vandal men's team.
Washington returns to the hardwood with a four-game home-stand to close out the non-conference slate, beginning with a Sunday 2 p.m. tip against Long Beach State.
