BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Guiliana Mendiola scored 11 of her 22 points in overtime as No. 19 Washington held off Montana State 73-65 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Washington led 56-46 with 4:42 remaining in regulation on Mendiola's 3-pointer, but Montana State closed with a 13-3 run. Jinnifer Jeresek hit two 3-pointers during the run, the second at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
The score was tied 61 when Washington went on a 7-0 run to take a 68-61 lead on a free throw by Mendiola with 1:17 remaining.
Kellie O'Neill added 16 points for Washington, and Andrea Lalum, playing in her hometown, had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Isabel Stubbs led Montana State with 12 points, Jeresek added 11 and Rebecca Alvidrez had 10 points and eight assists. Jessica Blake had 16 rebounds.
