Vansant, Muñoz Named All-Pacific Region
Dec. 4, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its All-Region teams today, with Husky outside hitters Krista Vansant and Kylin Muñoz each earning their first career honors. Vansant was named to the main 14-player All-Pacific Region Team while Muñoz earned honorable mention. The Pacific Region Team is even more selective than the All-Pac-12 Team, as the Pacific Region includes the entire Pac-12 conference as well as the West Coast Conference and Big Sky Conference. The Region honors followed the lead of the All-Pac-12 Team for UW, as Vansant was an All-Pac-12 selection and Muñoz was honorable mention All-Pac-12 last week. Last season, Vansant was named the Pacific Region Freshman of the Year. Vansant, a sophomore, and the senior Muñoz are now both eligible for AVCA All-America honors. The two are Washington's top-two point producers this season. Vansant (Redlands, Calif.) has ranked among the top outside hitters in the Pac-12 all season, averaging 4.64 points per set while raising her attack percentage (.265), blocks average (0.75) and digs average (2.33). Muñoz is the only outside hitter ranked in the top-10 in blocks in the Pac-12, and the only player in the top-10 in both blocks and service aces. Her blocking average is up to 1.22 per set, and her 36 service aces lead the team and rank third in the Pac-12. Muñoz averages 3.23 points per set, and has hit .265 this year, continuing a big upward trend from .228 in 2011 and .159 in 2010. The Huskies (25-6) continue their NCAA tournament quest this Friday, Dec. 7, in Omaha, Neb. where they will face fourth-seeded Nebraska at 4 p.m. Pacific time in a round of 16 match. The match will be live on ESPN3.com.
