Gil Earns Academic All-District Recognition
Nov. 10, 2012
SEATTLE - Husky senior Amanda Gil was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team this week, one of fourteen players from the eighth district to earn that distinction. The San Jose, Calif. native currently leads the Pac-12 in blocking, making a huge impact on the court as well as excelling in the classroom. Gil was named to the District 8 Second Team, one of four Pac-12 athletes named to the team. The middle blocker currently holds a 3.41 grade point average while majoring in Communications. Eligibility for the All-District Team requires a cumulative GPA above a 3.25 and players must be in their second season at their current institution. After missing the past two years of action, Gil has returned to lead the conference in blocking with a 1.74 blocks per set average, the highest of her career. She also ranks fifth on the team with 95 kills, and fourth with 172.5 points. Gil has tied the UW single-match blocks record this year with 15 blocks at USC on Oct. 26. Washington returns home to host Oregon and Oregon State this coming Friday and Saturday. |
