LEXINGTON, Ky. - Husky volleyball will begin the 2010 season ranked in the Top-10 in the nation once again, as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its preseason rankings today, with Washington checking in at No. 8. The Huskies have been ranked in the Top-10 in all but one poll dating all the way back to the 2004 season.

Washington, coming off a 24-6 season, features three returning AVCA All-Americans in senior outside hitter Kindra Carlson, senior setter Jenna Hagglund, and junior middle blocker Bianca Rowland, as well as adding All-American middle blocker Amanda Gil, though the former UCLA Bruin will have to sit out the season.

The Pac-10 leads all conferences by a wide margin with seven teams registering in the Top-25. Only Stanford is ranked ahead of the Huskies, coming in at No. 4. Last week the Cardinal were picked first in the Pac-10 Coaches' Poll and it was mistakenly reported that USC was second with Washington third. The Pac-10 corrected a voting error that resulted in the Huskies being moved up to the second spot. The Trojans, now third in the Pac-10 Coaches Poll, are also the third-highest conference team nationally, coming in at No. 10.

Also featured in the Top-25 is 11th-ranked California, 16th-ranked UCLA, 18th-ranked Arizona, and 20th-ranked Oregon. The Big 12 had the second-most number of schools ranked, with four, including No. 1-ranked Penn State, which has won the past three NCAA Championships. In fact, the Huskies remain the last team to defeat Penn State in the NCAA tournament, doing so back in 2006.

The Huskies are currently in their second week of fall camp, and will begin the season August 27 with a home match against Mercer as part of The Invitational At Seattle, Washington.

Go Huskies!
