Sanders And Rowland Head For Team USA Tryouts
Feb. 6, 2012
SEATTLE - Looking to begin the next chapters of their volleyball careers, Husky seniors Bianca Rowland and Evan Sanders will head to Colorado Springs, Colorado this week to take part in the open tryouts for the U.S. National Team. More than two hundred athletes will participate at the U.S. Olympic Training Center from Feb. 10-12. The U.S. Women's National Team program is open to selected tryout athletes who have concluded their college eligibility and who wish to be invited to be a member of the U.S. Women's Volleyball National Team on a full-time basis. This program could begin as early as the spring of 2012, or when an athlete's scholastic or professional club season has concluded. Many athletes with college eligibility remaining will also be competing, looking to earn a spot in the U.S. Women's Senior A2 program. "The annual U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout is an extremely important part of our program," U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand) said. "It gives us the opportunity to coach and evaluate these talented athletes and allows us to identify and possibly integrate them into our team in 2012." Rowland was named a Second Team AVCA All-American during her senior season as well as earning All-Pac-12 and All-Pacific Region honors. Sanders shared setting duties with Jenni Nogueras during her one season as a Husky, leading the team with 7.78 assists per set and ranking third with 24 aces. |
