Volleyballers Fall to No. 4 Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - Fourth-ranked Florida handed the Washington volleyball team a 3-0 loss Friday at the Pac- 10/SEC Volleyball Challenge at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Game scores were 15-10, 15-6 and 15-12.
The Gators' victory was their 22nd straight. The SEC champions, who posted a perfect 14- 0 conference record and have lost only six games over the 22-match streak, improved to 30-2 on the season with the win while Washington fell to 8-15 with one match to play in the 1998 season.
The Gators were led by 13 kills and 10 digs from Jenny Manz. SEC Tournament MVP Heather Wright led both teams with 14 kills. Washington senior Leslie Tuiasosopo paced the Huskies with 10 kills.
The Huskies played fairly evenly with the 1997 Final Four team in games one and three. The first-game marathon lasted more than a half hour. But the Gators had their way in game two, scoring five straight points to go ahead 11-3 and four straight to win. Down 12- 6 in game three, the Huskies rallied for six unanswered points to tie the score at 12-12 before the Gators responded with three points to win.
The Huskies play their final match of the 1998 season Saturday at noon (EST) when they take on South Carolina. The Gamecocks fell to Washington State, 3-0, in Friday's early match.
