The reason UW's volleyball team has won four matches this season after saving match points, and is in the NCAA regionals Friday at Nebraska, goes far beyond the court. It's from unique team bonding last summer.
2012 (As A Sophomore)
Named to the AVCA All-America Second Team, capping off an outstanding season ... also named to the All-Pac-12 Team and the All-Pacific Region Team ... finished fifth in the Pac-12 in both kills per set (3.99) and points per set (4.64) ... in Pac-12 matches, raised point production to 4.85 per set, third-best in the league ... posted 12 double-doubles on the year ... led the team in kills in 24 matches and led in points in 20 matches ... also led in aces in six matches, digs in four matches and blocks in four matches ... had double-figure kills in 26 of the 29 matches she appeared in, including 17 straight in Pac-12 play ... led UW with 11 kills on a .242 Att% and shared team lead with 7 digs plus 4 blocks in the NCAA round of 16 loss at Nebraska (12/7) ... great night in the 3-2 win over Hawaii in the NCAA 2nd round (12/1) leading the team with 16 kills and adding 10 digs and 3 blocks (2 solo) while hitting .297 ... returned to action after missing two weeks with an ankle injury in the 3-0 win over Central Arkansas (11/30) in the NCAA first round, getting 2 kills and an ace in limited time ... had 10 kills before leaving with a sprained ankle in the 3-2 win over No. 4 Oregon (11/16) ... double-double at No. 1 Stanford (11/8) with 10 kills, 13 digs ... put down 18 kills in the comeback 3-2 win at California (11/7) including a kill to save match point and another to win it in the fifth set ... set new career-highs in blocks and digs in the 3-2 comeback vs. Utah (11/4), putting up 8 blocks and 17 digs to go with 15 kills and 2 aces ... hammered out 15 kills (.387 Att%) plus 11 digs for double-double vs. Colorado (11/2) ... a second huge match against No. 6 UCLA, racking up 25 kills on a .305 Att% in a four-set loss, adding 8 digs and 4 blocks ... a tireless effort in five sets at No. 7 USC (10/26), taking a career-high 80 swings, the most by a Husky since Sanja Tomasevic in 2003, earning 22 kills and 12 digs ... posted 10 kills, 7 digs in 3-0 win over Cal (10/21) ... had a great match in a five-set loss to No. 2 Stanford, leading all players with 24 kills (.310 Att%) with 14 digs and also 6 blocks, 3 solo ... 14 kills (.333 Att%), 6 digs in loss at No. 5 Oregon (10/13) ... had 20 kills, a career-best for a three set match, plus 10 digs in win at Oregon State (10/12) ... rolled to match-high 13 kills on a .455 Att% plus 6 digs in sweep at Colorado (10/7) ... double-double at Utah (10/5) with team-high 17 kills (.351 Att%) plus 12 digs ... named the AVCA National Player of the Week as wel as Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week following wins over USC and UCLA, the first Husky to win the national honor since 2008 ... team-high 12 kills on a .370 Att% with 7 digs in win over No. 3 USC (9/28) ... huge career night in five-set win over No. 4 UCLA (9/26), bombing a career-best 31 kills and hitting .448 (31-5-58) plus 11 digs for a double-double ... the 31 kills vs. UCLA was most by a Husky since Becky Perry had 33 on Oct. 10, 2008, and the .448 mark was the best in a 30+ kill night since at least 2003 ... had a team-leading 15 kills on a .308 Att% in win at Arizona on 9/22 plus four block assists ... third double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs in four set win in Pac-12 opener vs. WSU (9/18) ... served up a career-high 4 aces in win at Portland (9/11) ... led team with 12 kills on a .333 Att% in the 3-0 win over Long Beach State (9/7) ... earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors on 9/3 after earning Most Valuable Player honors at the Tiger Classic in Houston, leading UW to wins over No. 7 Purdue, LSU, and Rice ... had 14 kills on a .320 attack percent in the win over Purdue then hit .345 with 13 kills against LSU, and had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs at Rice, averaging 4.83 points/set for the week ... named the Most Valuable Player of the season-opening Northwest Challenge, averaging 4.11 kills, 2.67 digs, 0.22 aces, 1.22 blocks, and 5.06 points per set while hitting .363 in the three wins ... had first double-double in opener against Boise State (8/24), with 12 kills and 11 digs, and matched career-high with 4 blocks ... hit .519 with 14 kills and no errors on 27 swings against Gonzaga (8/25), adding 8 digs and 4 blocks ... 11 kills and 2 solo blocks against Portland State (8/25).
2011 (As A Freshman)
One of the top freshmen in the NCAA, winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors, just the second Husky to do so and first since Christal Morrison in 2004 ... won AVCA Pacific Region Freshman of the Year honors ... honorable mention for Volleyball Magazine's National Freshman of the Year ... voted to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and was honorable mention on the All-Pac-12 Team ... started all 32 matches and was the only Husky to play in all 108 sets ... the team's main left side hitter, leading the Huskies with 398 kills and a 3.69 kills per set average that ranked ninth in the Pac-12 and tops among freshmen ... the first freshman to lead the team in kills since Morrison in 2004 ... ranked ninth in points in the Pac-12 with 4.17 per set ... led the team in kills in 22 of the 32 matches played ... reached double digits in kills in 27 of the 32 matches UW played ... ended the season on a great run, posting kill totals of 25, 25 and 22 in UW's final three matches against Washington State, Western Michigan, and Minnesota, after going into the final three matches with a season-high of 18 kills ... her 25 kills against Western Michigan in the NCAA first round tied for third-most in a postseason match in UW history ... led the team with seven double-doubles in kills and digs ... second on the team with 246 digs and a 2.28 digs per set average ... one of her best matches came in five-set win over Stanford, when she had seven of her 18 kills in the fifth set without making an error ... most dominant offensive night came at home vs. Washington State when she had 14 kills and one error on 19 swings for a season-best .684 attack percentage ... hit over .300 in 13 matches, over .400 in seven matches, over .500 in five matches, and hit over .600 against Washington State and Prairie View A&M ... season-high 55 attacks came in NCAA second round match to Minnesota, where she had 22 kills and hit .327 ... tied for third on the team with 24 aces, with a season-high of three in the Sept. 17 win over UCLA ... season-high 13 digs on Oct. 1 in a win over Oregon State ... led or shared the team lead in digs in four matches and in aces in eight matches ... twice had a season-high four blocks, once on Aug. 27 at Long Beach State and once on Oct. 7 vs. Colorado, both wins ... three times named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the only freshman to win three awards, including each of the first two weeks of the season when UW won the Long Beach State Invite and the Northwest Challenge, and again on Nov. 27 after leading the Huskies to a pair of wins over Washington State, when she averaged 4.88 kills per set and hit .471 in the two matches ... named the MVP of her first college tournament, leading UW to the win at the Long Beach State Invitational ... In High School
The consensus number one recruit in the nation among the class of 2011 ... was named the Gatorade 2010-11 National Player of the Year, the first UW recruit to earn the honor, after earning California State Player of the Year honors as well ... honored at the 2011 ESPY Awards along with all other National Players of the Year in other sports ... graced the cover of Volleyball Magazine's April 2011 issue as the top recruit of the magazine's "Fab-50" list of the top high school players ... also was the No. 1-ranked player on PrepVolleyball.com's annual list of "Senior Aces" ... was the ESPN RISE National Player of the Year in 2010 and named an Under Armour First Team All-American ... as a senior, led her team to the California State Division I regional semifinals, totaling 589 kills and 299 digs with a kill percentage of .557 ... named CIF Southern Section Player of the Year in 2010 for the third year in a row and to the All-State Team for the third straight season ... led Redlands to a runner-up finish in the state tournament in 2008 and 2009 ... after her sophomore year in 2008, she was named National Sophomore of the Year by PrepVolleyball.com ... was a U.S. Girls Youth National Training Team roster invitee in 2008 ... led team to its first ever CIF tournament her freshman year, placing eighth ... Redlands was undefeated in league play in her time, winning four straight Citrus Belt League titles ... played club volleyball for Rancho Valley and coach Danny Scott ... club team placed second at Junior Nationals in 2010, and Vansant was named to the 18-Open All-Tournament Team ... also placed third at the Far Westerns tournament in April of 2011 and won the 18-Open Las Vegas Classic.
