Oct. 28, 2011
» ITA National Indoor Selections SEATTLE - Fourth-ranked senior Denise Dy has been named an at-large selection for next week's ITA National Indoor Championships, the third straight year she'll be competing in the most exclusive national tourney of the season. National Indoors begin next Thursday, November 3, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Dy is the first Husky to make this 32-player field three times. In 2009 she advanced all the way to the semifinals, the second Husky to reach the final four. Last season she won two more matches to make the quarterfinals. ITA National Indoors is the second of three national individual tournaments on the college tennis schedule. The first was the ITA All-America Championships earlier this month, with the third being the NCAA Championships, which won't be until the end of May. Last weekend Dy advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, which featured five players ranked in the top-17 nationally. The best ever finish by a Husky at ITA National Indoors was by Kristina Kraszewski, who made the finals in 2000. She was a quarterfinalist in her only other appearance. 2011 grad Venise Chan is the only other Husky with multiple appearances in the elite tourney, as she made the quarterfinals in 2010 before losing in the first round last year. |
