UW's Kraszewski To Face No. 1 Tennis Seed
Sept. 20, 2000
SEATTLE, WA - University of Washington senior Kristina Kraszewski will compete today against top-seeded Meghann Shaughnessy in the Compaq/Microsoft USTA $75,000 Challenger tournament at the Central Park Tennis Club in Kirkland. Kraszewski, who is currently ranked 275th in the world, competed earlier this summer in the women's pro tennis tour. She reached the quarterfinals in both Salt Lake City and the Bronx and won the ITF tournament in Winnipeg, which qualified her for the upcoming Japan Open. "It's exciting to play the No. 1 seed," said Kraszewski who herself was ranked No. 1 nationally in the collegiate level for much of last season and finished sixth. "It's a good chance to really see how you do against more experienced players." The tournament features players from 20 countries and is the second part of the women's pro tennis tour. Semifinals for singles and doubles are Saturday at 10 a.m. Singles finals are Sunday at 1 p.m., with doubles finals immediately after. |
