Erin Hoe Is Triumphant On Second Day Of Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif.-- - Freshman Erin Hoe (Miliani, Hawaii) advanced to the semifinals in the invitational bracket at the Pac-10 Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday. The conference tournament is being held in conjunction with the 101st annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament in Ojai, Calif.
Hoe cruised to a straight set victory over California's Catherine Lynch, 6-1, 6-2, in her quarterfinals match. She then teamed up with junior Erin Boisclar (Agoura Hills, Calif.) in the doubles invitational bracket. The duo received a first round bye before taking on California's Sekita Grant and Raquel Kops-Jones in the quarterfinals. The tandem notched out an 8-6 victory over the California team to advance to the semifinals tomorrow.
Playing out of the doubles main draw bracket, Washington's Claire Carter (Nottingham, England) and Ilona Kordonskaya (Los Angeles, Calif.), who are currently ranked 27th nationally, rolled by 50th-ranked Monika Gieczys and Courtney Nagle, 8-4, in the round of 16. Unfortunately the duo fell to UCLA's Mariko Fritz-Krockow and Sara Walker, 9-7, in the quarterfinals.
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow with semifinals matches set to begin at 9:30 a.m. One round of women's consolation singles will be played on Saturday for those who lost in the first round.
