21st-Ranked Women's Tennis Downs Oregon, 6-1
March 30, 2001 EUGENE, Oreg. - The 21st-ranked Washington women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over Oregon on Friday afternoon at the University's 15th Street Courts. The Huskies improved to 13-6 and 4-1 in Pac-10 competition, while the Ducks fell to 3-12 and 0-6. Washington quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match as the swept all three doubles matches. Occupying the top spot, the 10th-ranked duo of senior Kristina Kraszewski and sophomore Darija Klaic downed Davina Mendiburu and Janice Nyland, 8-2, while 30th-ranked freshman Claire Carter teamed up with junior Ilona Kordonskaya to hand Monika Gieczys and Courtney Nagle a 8-4 loss in the No. 2 position. Junior Erin Boisclair and freshman Erin Hoe rapped up the doubles portion of the match as they defeated Adeline Arnaud and Jeanette Mattsson, 8-6. In singles action, Washington's top four singles players all picked up wins on the afternoon. Ninth-ranked Kraszewski defeated Nyland, 7-6, 6-2, in the top spot, while Carter knocked off Vickie Gunnarsson in the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-1. Kordonskaya picked up a win over Arnaud in the No. 3 spot, while Boisclair took Nagle to three sets before finally finishing her off, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Sophomore Colleen Gray picked up the Huskies sixth victory of the day as the No. 6 slot, as she cruised by Valerie Young, 6-4, 7-5, while Hoe fell at the number five position to Mendiburu, 6-3, 3-5, 7-5.
