Jan. 26, 2013
LOS ANGELES -- Rain and inclement weather delayed and eventually suspended play at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, but not before the Dawgs took a 1-0 lead on USF by winning the doubles point. The weather in Los Angeles delayed play much of the day, but finally No. 47 Washington and No. 43 South Florida got underway Saturday afternoon with the Huskies claiming the doubles point. Natali Coronel and Grace Ysidora won at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Clinching the point were Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu who won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Following doubles, singles began, but there were only three dry courts. The top three singles matches finished their first set with UW leading one of the three. Andjela Nemcevic took the first set 6-3 against Loreto Alonso at No. 2 singles. Just as the other three matches were set to begin, the fog and mist came back and play for the day was suspended. The two teams will pick up where they left off on Sunday at 9 a.m. The winner of the continued match on Sunday will take on No. 2 UCLA with a chance to go to the ITA Indoor Nationals. UCLA defeated No. 48 San Diego on Saturday. The loser of UW and USF will face San Diego in the consolation match also on Sunday. Washington Women's Tennis Doubles Singles |
