Jan. 25, 2013
LOS ANGELES -- The No. 47 Washington women head to Southern California this weekend for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Huskies will open with No. 43 South Florida on Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m. The winner of that match will then take on the winner of No. 2 UCLA and No. 48 San Diego on Sunday.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend works as qualifying for the ITA National Indoor Championships that will be in Charlottesville, Va., from February 8-11. There are 16 regional sites and the winner of each four-team regional will advance to nationals.
Washington is off to a 3-0 start to the season, having recently defeated No. 54 Hawai'i and Cal Poly in Honolulu. The Dawgs swept both of those matches and have not lost a point in dual matches so far this season. Grace Ysidiro is 3-0 at No. 1 singles, playing in her first three dual matches as a collegian.
Saturday's match against South Florida will be a formidable challenge. The Bulls are off to a 1-0 start with a win over Syracuse. They are led by No. 35 singles player Ecaterina Vasenina who is off to a 1-0 start as well.
Saturday's winner will play for a chance to advance to the ITA National Indoors. No 2 UCLA is the host school and favorite, but all four teams are capable of advancing.
Following the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Washington will be back in Southern California next weekend to face San Diego State and Saint Mary's in San Diego.
