Nov. 13, 2011
FRESNO, Calif. - Husky freshman Natali Coronel wrapped up her first fall season with her first title, as she won the B Flight at the Bulldog Classic today at the Wathen Tennis Center. Coronel posted two straight wins over players from the host Fresno State squad on their home courts. Coronel (Lomas de Zamora, Argentina) overcame the top seed in the semifinals, defeating FSU's Bianca Modoc, 6-4, 7-6. The final was much smoother, as she coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tanya Murtagh. Another Husky freshman, Capucine Gregoire, made the finals of the top singles flight. Gregoire had a tough semifinal win over Verena Preikschas of CSU-Stanislaus, rallying after a first set loss for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Playing for the title, Gregoire came up just short against Fresno State's Olga Kirpicheva, 6-3, 6-3. Washington will now be off until the new year, starting with the Michigan Invitational on January 14, and then the year's first dual match on Januay 20 at home against Sacramento State.
