Nov. 13, 2011
FRESNO, Calif. - It was a mixed bag on Saturday for the Husky women's tennis team at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Fresno State. Freshman Capucine Gregoire advanced to the top flight semifinals, and freshman Natali Coronel and senior Adrijana Pavlovic made the semis in the second flight, but UW struggled in doubles play. Gregoire handled Chan Truong of San Jose State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the semis. Senior Samantha Smith had a straight set round of 16 victory, but then she pulled out of her quarterfinal match later in the day. Sophomore Andjela Nemcevic had a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win over Nevada's Michelle Okhremchuk, but then she lost to Fresno State's Olga Kirpicheva in the quarterfinals. In the B flight, Coronel rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Isadora Busch of San Jose State to make the semis. Pavlovic had a long day, needing a third-set tiebreak to beat Jocelyn Davis of Cal Poly, and then a comeback 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 win over Sarah Irvin of Pacific. The Huskies had put three doubles teams into the quarterfinals on Friday, but all three duos lost in that round today.
