Lukac Wins Singles Title To Lead UW

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Huskies finished play on Sunday at the SDSU Fall Classic with Julija Lukac leading the way, winning her singles draw. Lukac defeated Tamitha Nguyen to earn one of the five titles awarded on the day.
Lukac overcame a tough first set, fighting back to win in impressive fashion. After dropping set one, 7-5, the sophomore finished strong, winning the final two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Also competing in a final was Elianne Douglas-Miron, but she came up just short of a title, falling 7-6 (4), 6-3.
The Dawgs also got three wins in the consolation draw, including Riko Shimuzu defeating Natasha Smith of Utah, 6-1, 6-1. The other winners were Capucine Gregoire and Brianna Kemp. Gregoire won 6-2, 6-2 over Kristin Buth of San Diego State, while Kemp won 6-1, 6-4 over Dylan Windom of Kansas.
In doubles, the lone Husky win came from the freshman duo of Kemp and Sarah Steele who defeated Somoracz and Hoom or San Diego State, 8-3.
The SDSU Fall Classic concludes the Fall Season for Washington. The Dawgs open to the spring on January 15 when it hosts Seattle University at 5 p.m.
