Dawgs Underway From The USTA Collegiate Invitational

Portland, Ore. - Four Huskies made the trip down I-5 to play in the USTA Collegiate Invitational Presented by Adidas. The Dawgs competed against players from some top teams, as well has some of the top junior players from around the nation.
Washington got off to a great start in the morning with both doubles teams earning victories. Andjela Nemcevic and Julija Lukac were a late entry to the doubles draw, but took advantage by beating the team of Fuchs and Polyakova of Portland, 8-5.
The Dawgs then moved on to singles, but did not have the same results. Ysidora dominated the first set, 6-1, but eventually fell in three sets to Claire Liu of Thousand Oaks, Calif., 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Also losing to USTA junior players were Lukac and Douglas-Miron. Lukac, like Ysidora won the first set of her match, but eventually fell, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Douglas-Miron lost her match 7-6 (1), 6-2.
Nemcevic was the only Husky to take on a college player, but she fell to Kate Fuller of Georgia, 6-3, 6-2.
Washington then moved to round two of the doubles draw, but was defeated by a pair of teams from Georgia. The team of Lukac-Nemcevic lost to Fuller-Herring, 8-2, while the team of Douglas-Miron-Ysidora lost to Craft Kowase, 8-5.
The Dawgs will be back on the courts tomorrow for the continuation of Round Robin Play in the singles draw. The Husky doubles teams will also compete in the Consolation Round.
