Women's Tennis Advances In Pre-Qualifying Draw Of ITA All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- Washington women's tennis team opened the 2002 fall season at the pre-qualifying draw of the Women's ITA All-American Championships at UCLA, Saturday, with two doubles teams and three singles players advancing to second and third rounds of competition, respectively.
Senior Erin Boisclair, sophomore Dea Sumantri and senior Colleen Gray each picked up wins in their first and second round singles matches, advancing to compete in the third-round Sunday. The same was true for the doubles teams of Gray and Sumantri, and Boisclair and freshman Dinka Hadzic, who won their first-round matches and advanced to second-round action tomorrow.
Unseeded Boisclair pulled an upset in the second round of pre-qualifying singles, defeating Wisconsin's Linde Mues, the No. 3 seed, in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
One round of singles and two rounds of doubles will be played Sunday at UCLA, with the winners advancing to the qualifying draw, Oct. 8-9 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The main draw rounds will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 13.
