April 17, 1999

PULLMAN, Wash. - The 27th-ranked Washington women's tennis team dropped its third straight match to 30th-ranked Washington State 5-4 today at the Stadium Way Tennis Center. The Cougars avenged an earlier loss in Seattle, but the all-time series record is still owned 30-6 by the Huskies. This loss drops Washington's Pac-10 record to 1-8, 10-10 overall, while Washington State improves to 2-7 and 8-10 overall.

In singles action, Washington State's Erica Perkins upset Washingtons 15th-ranked Kristina Kraszewski 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the No.1 slot. Perkins, a Seattle, Wash. native, is ranked 40th nationally and this is her first win against Kraszewski in three career meetings. This defeat brings Kraszewskis overall record to 21-11.

Down 2-4 heading into doubles play, the Cougars made a comeback and swept away the Huskies. Wins produced by the teams of Perkins/Burrows, Gajdzik/Reisz, and Filipovic/Pine sealed the Cougars defeat of the Huskies.

Next week individual Washington players will compete in the Pac-10 Championships Apr. 22-25 in Ojai, Calif. Singles and Doubles champions will be crowned with no team competition.
