April 1, 1999 SEATTLE, Calif.- The 22nd-ranked Washington women's tennis team dropped its third straight match to 15th-ranked Arizona State (9-5), 6-3, Thursday at the UW upper campus courts. This loss drops the Huskies to 9-6 on the season.
Washington was kept alive by two singles victories captured by Kristina Kraszewski and Ilona Kordonskaya at the No.1 and No.3 singles slots. Kraszewski, ranked 13th in the nation, defeated Arizona State's 36th-ranked Allison Bradshaw 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in No.1 singles. This win improves Kraszewski's overall record to 19-8. At No.3, Kordonskaya beat Arizona State's Karin Palme 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to improve her record to 15-10.
In doubles action, the Sun Devils ensured the team win when the No.2 team of Alison Nash and Celena McCoury defeated the Husky duo of Zuzana Stunova and Peggy Wu 8-6. This loss drops Stunova and Wu's record to 13-10. The lone Husky doubles win came at the No.1 slot. The 22nd-ranked tandem of Kraszewski and Kordonskaya upset Arizona State's 14th-ranked team of Bradshaw and Katy Propstra 8-5. This win raises Kraszewski and Kordonskaya's doubles record to 13-8.
The Huskies return to action Sunday, Apr. 4, hosting Arizona at noon. All matches will be played at the UW upper campus courts, weather permitting.
