UW Womens Tennis Upset No. 33 San Diego

 

February 21, 1999

SAN DIEGO -The Washington womens tennis team upset No.33 San Diego (2-5) by a score of 5-4 this evening at USD's West Courts. The Huskies, ranked 42nd by the latest ITA poll, have extended their win-streak to five and are now 8-2 on the season.

Husky Kristina Kraszewski, currently ranked 22nd, ended her three match win-streak when she fell 6-4, 6-2 to the No.1 ranked player in the nation, Zuzana Lesenarova. This is only Kraszewski's second loss at the No.1 singles position and it drops her overall record to 16-6.

In doubles action, the duo of Jennifer Svanfeldt and Zeta Wagner gave Washington its only doubles win when they beat San Diegos tandem of Anja Tragardh and Millie Prior 8-4 at the No.3 position. This win raised Svanfeldt and Wagners overall record to 12-4.

The Huskies resume tennis action in two weeks by playing host to Oregon on Sunday, Mar. 7, at noon. All matches will be played at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
