Husky Women's Tennis Shuts Out Portland, 7-0

SEATTLE, Wa. - The 12th-ranked Washington women's tennis team (7-1, 0-0) easily took care of Portland today 7-0. This is the second time this year the Huskies have swept a match, the other coming on Feb. 1 against 44th-ranked San Diego State.
UW started the day winning all three doubles matches. Claire Carter (Nottingham, England) and Darija Klaic (Zupanja, Croatia) teamed up to defeat the Portland pair of Courtney Perkins and Jana Jusupovic, 8-6. In the second match the duo of Colleen Gray (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Dea Sumantri (Jakarta, Indonesia) clinched the doubles point by defeating Alyson Tyson and Kellee Menke, 8-2. The last doubles match of the day saw Andrea Coulter (Calgary, Alberta) and Ilona Kordonskaya defeat the tandem of Dierdre Ring-Marrinson and Lisa Bessman 8-1.
No. 39 Carter improved her record to 9-6 by defeating Perkins in a grueling 10-point tie breaker, 6-4, 4-6, 8-2, in No. 1 singles. Sumantri clinched the victory for the Huskies by defeating Menke in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Gray earned her 11th win of the year with a 6-3, 6-2, defeat over Juspovic at No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, Kordonskaya defeated Tyson, winning, by a margin of 6-1, 6-2. Coulter was able to easily take care of Bessman in No. 4 doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Wrapping up the day, Erin Hoe (Mililani, Hawaii) defeated Ring-Marrinson in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Washington will face #60 Oregon on Sat., Feb. 23 at noon in the Nordstrom Tennis Center in the second day of a three-day homestand.
